Elvis Presley has agreed to play the lead male role opposite Barbra Streisand in a new update of the motion picture "A Star
is Born," Warner Bros./Barwood Films announced today. Although both Marlon Brando and Neil Diamond had been considered for
the role, Kris Kristofferson had been the frontrunner for the role before Streisand reportedly said she favored Presley. "My
boy will be a smash in the movie," said Presley manager Col. Tom Parker. The movie is scheduled for Christmas 1976 theatrical
release. Presley's last movies were Charro, The Trouble with Girls, and Change of Habit, all released

Cancels Tour
Country singer Hank Williams has canceled all touring dates on his schedule for the time being, a
spokesman for Acuff-Rose said today. Further details were not announced but there have been reports here that Williams had
entered an unspecified clinic for treatment. He had repeatedly missed show dates recently due to "personal problems." Scheduled
shows had included a New Year's Eve performance in Charleston, W. Va., and a New Year's Day show in Canton, Ohio.
