The July/August issue of Fingerstyle Guitar will salute Chet Atkins with a selection
of previously unpublished photos and letters and a CD of interviews and music. Editor Bill Piburn tells country.com that among
the 25 or so photos is a rare Polaroid snapshot of Atkins and Paul McCartney, taken by the late Linda McCartney, during the
former Beatle's visit to Nashville in the early 1970s. Featured on the CD will be Atkins' Grand Ole Opry performance of "Avalon"
on July 14, 1956; his recording of "Black Mountain Rag" from the 1971 album Pickin' My Way; Piburn's 25-minute interview
with Atkins' long-time rhythm guitarist, Paul Yandell; and a 14-minute interview of Atkins conducted by bassist Dave Pomeroy.
The tribute will also include the full text of five letters Atkins wrote to fellow guitarist Rick Foster. The Chet Atkins
Appreciation Society will hold its annual meeting Wednesday through Saturday (July 11-14) at the Sheraton Music City in Nashville.
