Toby Keith Summoned to the White House
Toby Keith is playing a concert of patriotic music at the White House, along with Larry Gatlin, the U.S. Marine Band and singer/actress Nell Carter. The program, on Monday night (July 30), is being taped for a TV special, In Performance at the White House, to run on PBS Sept. 6. Keith was to perform a Stephen Foster medley of "Oh, Susanna" and "Beautiful Heart." Gatlin was to sing "God Bless America." Carter, who starred in the Gimme a Break TV series, planned to sing "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." Also on the bill was TV actor Gerald McRaney. The event, hosted by President Bush, marks the 200th year of White House performances by the Marine Band. The band was invited by President John Adams to play a White House New Year's Day reception in 1801. 07/30/01
