Champ Hood Dies at 49
Texas Music Hall of Fame member Champ Hood, 49, died Saturday (Nov. 3) at his home near Austin, Texas, after battling cancer. A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Hood was a member of influential '70s and '80s country combo Uncle Walt's Band, which included David Ball and the late Walter Hyatt. Hood also played guitar and fiddle with Lyle Lovett, Kelly Willis, Guy Clark and, most recently, Austin roots singer Toni Price. Hood had been working on his first solo album. A service in Austin is set for Sunday (Nov. 11). 11/05/01
