Deana Carter was charged with driving under the influence and an "implied consent" violation (for refusing a breathalyzer
test) early Friday morning (Dec. 21) in Nashville. Metro Nashville police confirm that Carter was stopped for speeding just
before 1:30 a.m. The singer-songwriter smelled of alcohol and admitted she had been drinking. After field sobriety tests she
was arrested and taken through night court around 3 a.m. Best known for "Strawberry Wine," Carter released a new holiday collection,
Father Christmas, Nov. 20 on her own label, Deanatone Records, through the Rounder Records Group. Carter is said to
be close to signing a new deal with the RCA Label Group. 12/21/01
