Jackson Among Christian Country Nominees
Thursday morning (Aug. 29) brought Country Music Association award nominations for Alan Jackson and Martina McBride, but they received even more award nominations later in the day. Jackson and McBride are among the mainstream country acts on the list of nominees for the eighth annual Christian Country Music Awards. Jackson, who received 10 CMA nods, scored two CCMA mentions when "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" was nominated for song and video of the year. The CCMA's song of the year category also included "What If She's an Angel," a hit for Tommy Shane Steiner. Other video nominees include McBride's "Blessed," Jeff Carson's "Real Life" and Darryl Worley's "I Miss My Friend." Nominees for mainstream country artist of the year include Carson, Randy Travis, Larry Gatlin, Stella Parton and Marty Raybon. Gatlin is also up for the CCMA's Pioneer Award. Merle Haggard's gospel work with Chester Smith resulted in a vocal duo of the year nomination. Charlie Daniels is nominated for musician of the year. The CCMA awards show takes place Nov. 5 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. 08/30/02
