Diffie, Herndon, Dodd, Ingram Exit Sony
Joe Diffie, Ty Herndon, Deryl Dodd and Jack Ingram have left the Sony Music family of record labels, a source at the company confirms. Fellow veteran Collin Raye departed Sony earlier this year. Diffie, who first charted in 1990 with the No. 1 hit "Home," and Herndon, who also scored a No. 1 with his 1995 debut, "What Mattered Most," have been stalwarts on Sony's Columbia label. Dodd and Ingram were more recent signings to Sony's Lucky Dog Records and, although critically praised, were still in search of a breakthrough hit. Two of Diffie's albums -- Honky Tonk Attitude and Third Rock From the Sun -- earned platinum certifications (meaning 1 million copies of each were shipped to record stores), while a third -- Regular Joe -- achieved gold (500,000 copies shipped) status. Herndon recorded two gold albums for Sony -- What Mattered Most and Living in a Moment. 09/04/02
