Country Music Magazine Closes
Country Music magazine, a respected leader in country music journalism, will cease publication with its August-September 2003 issue. Officials of American Media Inc., which owns Country Music and Country Weekly, notified its Nashville-based editorial staff of the decision Wednesday morning (June 11). Headquartered in Florida, American Media owns two of the top weekly tabloid newspapers -- The National Enquirer and Star -- as well as several health and fitness magazines, including Shape, Men's Fitness and Muscle & Fitness. Established in 1972, Country Music established a reputation for its in-depth and often scholarly approach to covering country music and its artists. The bi-monthly magazine's final edition, which is being printed this week, features a cover photo of Martina McBride as part of a themed issue on women in country music. Publication of Country Weekly is not affected by the closure of Country Music. 06/11/03
