Acuff Honored on Postage Stamp
A stamp honoring Country Music Hall of Fame member Roy Acuff will be unveiled by the U.S. Postal Service at a Sept. 13 ceremony
at the Grand Ole Opry House. Known as the King of Country Music, Acuff was one of the first superstars on the Grand Ole Opry.
As a music publisher, Acuff helped provide the foundation for Nashville's music industry. The stamp art is a detail of a black
and white photograph that appeared in the March 5, 1949, issue of Collier's magazine. The image catches Acuff in a
playful moment, holding his fiddle under his arm. The issuance of the stamp coincides with the 100th anniversary of Acuff's
birth. He died in 1992. 07/17/03
