At the age of 78, gospel legend Brock Speer, the patriarch of gospel's legendary Speer Family, died recently at at a Nashville,
Tennessee, hospital. In 1975, his 50th year singing gospel music, Speer was inducted into the Gospel Music Association's Hall
of Fame. He also received the Southern Gospel Music Guild's Heritage Award in 1996, Gospel Voice magazine's Living
Legend Award in 1989; Singing News magazine's Marvin Norcross Award in 1997 and was inducted into the Southern Gospel
Music Association's Hall of Fame in 1997. Brock sang with his family his entire life with only one interruption, World War
II. The Speer Family recorded some 70 albums for Columbia, RCA, Benson, RiverSong, HeartWarming and Homeland. The group and
group members have won 14 Dove Awards and received seven Grammy nominations.
