Singer Martina McBride, the first contemporary country artist ever added to the lineup, performed before an enormously excited crowd at her debut on Lillith Fair '98. McBride made her appearance in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While the entire audience sang along with McBride on her hit "Independence Day," tour mates the Indigo Girls stopped by McBride's bus earlier to invite her to appear on stage with them to help sing their hit "Closer To Fine." Rock diva Sarah McLachlan also invited McBride onstage for her closing number "What's Going On." "It went extremely well," explains McBride, "I felt very accepted and welcomed by the audience and other performers."
