Comprehensive Cash
Johnny Cash's music is constantly being repackaged, but an upcoming three-disc box set, Love, Death, God, due in the spring, could become the best survey of the Man in Black's prolific career. The discs will be available separately as Love Songs, Murder and Sings Songs of Inspiration. Although the track listing is still being finalized, the trilogy includes material from Cash's days with Sun, Columbia and American Recordings, including a few obscurities. "Cash put it together -- he picked the songs and sequenced them," a spokesperson for Columbia/Legacy told Rolling Stone. "The way they were put together shows the way the man's mind works." Each volume will feature rare and previously unpublished photos, notes by Cash himself and an accompanying essay. Cash's wife June Carter Cash will contribute the essay for Love, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino will write the notes for Murder and U2 singer Bono will pen the notes for God.
