The International Bluegrass Music Museum in Owensboro, Ky., closed this week to undergo $3 million in upgrades. The 8-year-old museum -- which houses the International Bluegrass Music Association's Hall of Honor -- had planned to close this summer for a year's worth of renovations and construction of new exhibits, reports Owensboro's Messenger-Inquirer. But the museum's board of directors discovered last week that the work was going to take more than a year, and there was a lot of preliminary work that needed to be done before construction could start. "Construction probably won't begin until May," board chairman Steve Brechter told the paper. "And it may not be finished in time to open in May 2001 like we had planned. We may have to push that back a couple of months. But when it opens, it will be a world-class museum."
