Sammy Kershaw and Mercury Records have parted ways after 10 years and eight albums, Mercury president Luke Lewis announced Monday. Kershaw's last major hit for the label was "Love of My Life," which rose to No. 2 on the Billboard country singles chart on Feb. 7, 1998. Over his 10-year association with the label, Kershaw had three platinum albums, for shipments of more than 1 million copies. His most recent, Maybe Not Tonight, was released in April 1999 and has sold 150,000 copies to date, according to figures supplied by SoundScan. "We have accomplished everything that we set out to do, and that was to build a successful career," Kershaw said in a news release. Lewis also was generous: "We've had a great run together and I'm certain Sammy will be successful at whatever he chooses to do in the future." No word on what those plans might be. A call to Kershaw's office Monday night was not returned.
