"Guilty - Now Go Listen to Some Bocephus!"
Break the local noise ordinance in Fort Lupton, Colorado, and you might find yourself listening to "You Are My Sunshine" or "A Country Boy Can Survive." Earlier this month, Municipal Judge Paul Sacco began sentencing offenders who play their car stereos too loudly to an hour of Gene Autry, Hank Williams, Jr. or classical music. Sacco says he believes the punishment is a better deterrent to repeat offenses than the fine which was previously imposed on violators. "It isn't that we don't like their music," the judge commented. "It's that nobody should impose their music on anybody else." Offenders serve their sentence by sitting in city council chambers and listening to an hour of music. If they leave the room, plug their ears or complain, they're subject to contempt charges.
