Merle Haggard has canceled 11 concert dates due to a bout with pneumonia. A spokesperson for the Country Music Hall of Fame member told The Tennessean that Haggard's new album releases, a book deal and heavy touring left the 62-year-old singer worn out. The pneumonia reportedly hit Haggard hard, but not hard enough to put him in the hospital. The singer is already feeling better and he even had plans to go fishing this week near his California home. He plans to hit the concert trail again next month, and he plans on going through with an October 2nd pay-per-view special from Las Vegas. The country artist will issue a double CD greatest hits set, Merle Haggard For The Record, August 24th on TBA Records. The 43-track set includes duets with Willie Nelson, Alabama, Brooks & Dunn and pop star Jewel. A month later, HarperCollins will release the legend's autobiography, My House of Memories: Merle Haggard For The Record.
