Patti Page Joined By Country Guests on Upcoming Album, Concert
Trisha Yearwood, Alison Krauss, Kathy Mattea, Emmylou Harris, Jesse Winchester and Suzy Bogguss appear on Patti Page's upcoming album Brand New Tennessee Waltz, which marks the 50th anniversary of her original recording of "Tennessee Waltz." Page and special guests will celebrate the album's release with a concert at Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium on May 7. Late Country Music Hall of Fame member Pee Wee King and Redd Stewart wrote the American classic "Tennessee Waltz." Page's 1950 version of the song was No. 1 on the pop charts and within six months sold almost 5 million copies. It became an official Tennessee state song in 1955 and still ranks as one of the biggest selling singles of all time, just behind "Candle in the Wind" and "White Christmas." "Brand New Tennessee Waltz" was penned by Winchester, who sings harmonies with Harris on Page's rendition of the song. Page also covers the Don Williams hit "I Believe in You," Anne Murray's "Can I Have This Dance?" and Mattea's "Where've You Been," written by Mattea's husband, Jon Vezner, who produced the album.
