Dave Alvin, The Whites Reviewed in New Releases
Once the chief songwriter and lead guitarist for seminal 1980s Los Angeles roots rock band The Blasters, Dave Alvin has been performing on his own for more than a decade, turning out lyrically stunning and critically applauded solo albums. Alvin's seventh solo album, Public Domain, is a collection of revamped traditional folk, country and blues songs old enough to have their copyrights lapse into the public domain. The Whites -- father Buck and daughters Cheryl and Sharon -- have returned to their distinctive acoustic, Dobro-infused sound of the late '70s and early '80s on A Lifetime in the Making, the group's first album in four years.
