The Universal Music Group in Nashville has eliminated six employees in its promotion and marketing departments. UMG's labels
include MCA Nashville, Mercury Nashville and Lost Highway. UMG also cut one employee in October. Its artist roster includes
Gary Allan, Reba McEntire, Joe Nichols, Shania Twain and Lucinda Williams. UMG cites Internet file-sharing and home CD-burning
for its $48.8 million operating loss in the first half of 2003. 10/16/03
