Guitarist Doc Watson has received the Lifetime Achievement award from the Recording Academy and will be acknowledged during
the Grammy ceremony on Feb. 8, 2004. Watson won his sixth Grammy in 2002 for best traditional folk album. A collaborative
album with Ricky Skaggs and Earl Scruggs, titled The Three Pickers, is nominated for two Grammys in 2004. Watson is
also known for inaugurating MerleFest, the huge North Carolina music festival that honors his late son, Merle Watson. Other
musicians receiving this year's Lifetime Achievement award include pianist Van Cliburn, Motown Records' studio players The
Funk Brothers, children's folk singer Ella Jenkins, and jazz heroes Sonny Rollins and Artie Shaw.
