A pioneer in the alt-country scene, Alejandro Escovedo is being honored with a two-disc tribute album, titled Por Vida,
in April. Participants include Joe Ely and the Flatlanders, the Jayhawks, Chuck Prophet and Whiskeytown, as well as Jackson
Browne, Billy Corgan, Los Lobos and Escovedo's niece Sheila E. Fellow alt-country star Caitlin Cary will headline a tribute
concert in Charlotte, N.C., Sunday (Jan. 25). Other concerts across the U.S. are being scheduled. Proceeds from the album
and concerts will help defray Escovedo's medical bills stemming from his battle with hepatitis C.
