A special screening of Grand Theft Parsons takes place May 1 during the Nashville Film Festival. Johnny Knoxville portrays
Phil Kaufman, Gram Parsons' road manager, in the film directed by David Caffrey. Set for national release later this year,
the film centers around Parsons' death in 1973 of a drug overdose and Kaufman's subsequent theft of the singer's casket at
a California airport. Honoring Parsons' wishes, Kaufman took the singer's body to Joshua Tree, Calif., for a primitive cremation.
Kaufman, who refers to himself as Road Mangler Deluxe, has since served as road manager for other country acts, including
Emmylou Harris, Vince Gill and Marty Stuart. Kaufman is scheduled to attend the screening. The Nashville Film Festival is
set for April 26-May 2.
