The future home of Bill Monroe's most famous mandolin -- a Gibson F-5 model built in 1923 -- will likely be determined during
a trial scheduled to begin July 12 in Nashville. James Monroe, the Country Music Hall of Fame member's son, hopes to sell
the instrument to the Ohio County Industrial Foundation. Bill Monroe was born in Rosine, a small community in Ohio County,
Ky. A deal between James Monroe and the Bill Monroe Foundation fell through in 2002 after the organization was unable to raise
the $1.1 million required to buy the mandolin. The mandolin is part of an ongoing disagreement between the two groups. Both
foundations want to display the mandolin in their respective museums that are being planned.
