Joining longtime friend Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson returned to the concert stage Saturday (July 3) during the second annual
UFO Music Festival in Roswell, N.M. Nelson has been off the road while recuperating from surgery May 19 to relieve pain caused
by carpal tunnel syndrome. Wearing a hand and wrist brace on his left arm, Nelson wasn't able to play the guitar during the
show but was all smiles as he sported a T-shirt that read "Peace, Love and Aliens." Haggard played guitar for Nelson after
his own well-received set with his longtime band, the Strangers. Both Haggard and Nelson were in fine vocal form, taking the
appreciative lawn-chaired crowd through their respective lists of hits. Haggard told CMT News he hopes to expand the music
festival to two days next year. Lacy J. Dalton opened this year's concert. The four-day Roswell UFO Festival attracted die-hard
alien enthusiasts to the New Mexico desert.
