Toby Keith joined Merle Haggard in a Burbank, Calif., recording studio Saturday (Aug. 21) to cut a duet for Haggard's upcoming album. The song, titled "White Boys," was written by Haggard 15 years ago but never recorded. "It might have been a little bit ahead of its time as far as airplay goes," Haggard told CMT News. "Nothing against being any other color, but we are white boys, and good white boys are becoming a minority. I thought it was time for the song, and I thought it was perfect for us." The cut was produced by legendary music man Jimmy Bowen, who came out of retirement to work on Haggard's new album at the singer's request. After the afternoon recording session, Haggard joined Keith onstage that night during his show at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Keith told CMT News he has also written a duet for himself and Haggard. The two plan to record the song, "She Ain't Hooked on Me No More," in Nashville for an upcoming Keith album.
