Although the final financial tally is still being determined, last week's Country in the Rockies in Crested Butte, Colo., appears to be the most successful fundraiser in the event's 11-year history. Supporting the T.J. Martell Foundation, the musical highlights included concerts in the Club Med Theater by Charlie Daniels, Kenny Loggins, Kathy Mattea, Casey Beathard, Jamie O'Neal, Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich and other members of the Muzik Mafia. The event, which took place Feb. 1-6, attracted a record-setting 410 registrants, including more than 100 newcomers, who paid for the luxury of skiing and meeting country stars. The high-ticket item of the week was a limited edition Z06 Corvette auctioned for $115,000. The non-profit T.J. Martell Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for research into the treatments and cures of leukemia, cancer and AIDS.
