The Jayhawks, a Minneapolis band that pioneered the alt.country movement, have called it quits, says singer Gary Louris. "I
don't think we're going to do anything else," Louris told the (Minneapolis) Star Tribune. "We felt like we've done
that enough. Everybody just wants to do something else. We haven't completely closed the door, but ... I'd say it's dead."
The band formed in 1985 and released several critically acclaimed albums, including Hollywood Town Hall (1992) and
Tomorrow the Green Grass (1995). Louris and founding member Mark Olson (who left the band in the mid-90s) are currently
touring together. The band issued its most recent album, Rainy Day Music, in 2003.
