MerleFest Underway in North Carolina
MerleFest 2005 is underway in Wilkesboro, N.C., with performances by Loretta Lynn, the Chieftains, Rodney Crowell, Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, the Del McCoury Band, Allison Moorer, Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder and many others. Highlighting the four-day event is a reunion of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass Boys, including Earl Scruggs, Richard Greene, Bobby Hicks, host Peter Rowan and others. The 18th annual festival continues through Sunday (May 1) on the campus of Wilkes Community College. MerleFest is named for the late guitarist, Merle Watson, the son of acoustic music legend Doc Watson.
