The Supreme Court has ruled that companies that actively encourage file-swapping should be held liable when customers use
their sites for piracy. The unanimous verdict was announced Monday (June 27). The decision gives movie studios, record labels
and songwriters the right to sue Web sites such as Grokster, from which movies and songs can be downloaded illegally, thus
violating copyrights.
