Singer Judy Collins will receive the Spirit of Americana Free Speech Award at the fourth annual Americana Music Association
awards program. The late singer-songwriter John Hartford will also be honored with the Americana Music Association's President's
Award during the Sept. 9 event at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. The Spirit of Americana Award, presented by the association
and the First Amendment Center, calls attention to those who have been vocal in promoting social and political causes. Past
recipients include Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson and Steve Earle. The awards show will feature appearances by actor Billy
Bob Thornton, Emmylou Harris, R&B great Solomon Burke and many others. Arlo Guthrie will lead all of the performers in singing
Hartford's classic, "Gentle on My Mind."
