With less than a week of airplay, Garth Brooks' new single, "Good Ride Cowboy," will debut at No. 18 on the Billboard country singles chart, Billboard Radio Monitor reported Monday (Oct. 10). The chart is compiled from seven days of combined national airplay on Billboard's reporting stations. The reporting period ends Sundays at midnight, and Brooks' single was not delivered to radio stations until Thursday morning (10/6). In debuting at No. 18, Brooks breaks his own chart record for the era since Billboard began electronically monitoring radio airplay. His single, "The Thunder Rolls," entered the chart at No. 19 in 1991. "Good Ride Cowboy," a tribute to Chris LeDoux, will be featured on Brooks' upcoming compilation CD to be distributed exclusively at Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores.
