Janette Carter, the last surviving child of Carter Family founders A.P. and Sara Carter, has been admitted to the intensive care unit at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. The 82-year-old singer and musician is being treated for a variety of chronic ailments, including Parkinson's Disease and an infected gall bladder duct. She had been in a rehabilitation center after falling and breaking her wrist on Dec. 25 but was transported to the hospital's emergency room Tuesday night (Jan. 17) and later moved to the intensive care unit. She is the niece of Maybelle Addington Carter -- June Carter Cash's mother -- the other founding member of the original Carter Family trio.
