Big & Rich joined actor George Clooney, Nobel Peace Prize recipient Elie Wiesel, Olympic speed skater Joey Cheek and the Rev. Al Sharpton in Washington during Sunday's (April 30) rally to stop the genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan. Thousands showed up for the rally, one of several in the U.S. sponsored by the Save Darfur Coalition. In the three years since violence erupted in the region, it is estimated that more than 200,000 people have died in Darfur and that 2.5 million have been displaced. "President Bush has taken the morally-correct action by asking Congress to provide emergency supplemental funding to fortify the badly undermanned and underfunded African Union peacekeeping forces, but it's going to take more than money to solve this crisis," said Big Kenny. "We urge our fellow country music entertainers and our fans to join us in this cause to stop this genocide that has claimed hundreds of thousands of victims."
