Doyle Lawson has been chosen to receive the National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship, the country's highest
honor in the folk and traditional arts. Lawson is highly regarded in the bluegrass community as a mandolin player and for
his blend of traditional bluegrass and gospel music. The Tennessee native will accept the award in Washington in September.
"This is by far the highest honor that I've ever had bestowed on me, and I don't think there are adequate words to express
my true feelings," Lawson said. Other bluegrass artists who have received the award in the past include Bill Monroe, Ralph
Stanley and Jerry Douglas.
