Big & Rich, Willie Nelson and former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno will help Texas music mainstay Freddy Powers celebrate his 75th birthday during an Oct. 16 charity event in Austin. A noted songwriter, guitarist and record producer, Powers has recorded with Nelson and toured extensively with Merle Haggard. As a songwriter, his No. 1 hits include George Jones' "I Always Get Lucky With You" and Haggard's "Let's Chase Each Other Around the Room." Nelson and Reno will appear at a roast prior to a performance by Big & Rich. All proceeds from the event at the Barton Creek Art Center will benefit the Freddy Powers Parkinson's Foundation. Diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2004, Powers created the organization to fund research and assist Parkinson's patients in Central Texas.
