Merle Haggard will be honored with a street named in his honor in Oildale, Calif., a small town north of Bakersfield, where
he spent his childhood years. A two-mile stretch of the road will be renamed Merle Haggard Drive. Officials of Oildale and
Bakersfield reportedly had a rivalry over which town would name a street after the Country Music Hall of Fame member. Fans
will raise money to help fund the estimated $41,500 it will take to change the street signs.
