Fire at Cash's Former Home Still Under Investigation
Authorities in Hendersonville, Tenn., are continuing the investigation into a fire that destroyed Johnny and June Carter Cash's former home on Old Hickory Lake. The Tuesday afternoon (April 10) blaze erupted while construction workers were continuing restoration projects for the home's current owner, singer-songwriter Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees. Although the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, the flames moved quickly and engulfed the house within a matter of minutes. A flammable wood preservative had recently been applied to the 13,880-square-foot structure. A company owned by Gibb and his wife purchased the property in late 2005, and the couple planned to restore the home to its original condition. In a message posted Wednesday (April 11) on his official Web site, Gibb wrote, "The family is devastated, and we thank you all for your support. No further comment at this time."
