Jeff Foxworthy's impassioned monologue at the 2007 CMT Music Awards about being a country fan was written when he couldn't
think of anything funny to say, he told reporters backstage following Monday's (April 16) awards show in Nashville. Although
he was hosting the event for the third year, Foxworthy said he didn't expect to present the speech during the show because
his wife told him it was too serious. However, the television producers considered it an ideal introduction to Martina McBride's
new ballad, "Anyway," which closed the telecast. "As a comic, people don't expect you to be serious about something, but I
have a serious side," he said. "I have a really serious side."
