Mel Tillis to Join Grand Ole Opry
Country music veteran Mel Tillis will become the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry during a formal induction ceremony on June 9 in Nashville. Opry member Bill Anderson extended the invitation Saturday (May 12) after Tillis performed on the long-running radio show. The 74-year-old member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame will be inducted into the Opry by his daughter, singer-songwriter Pam Tillis, who has been an Opry member since 2000. Mel Tillis first hit the charts in 1958 and has scored more than 36 Top 10 singles, including six No. 1's. His songwriting credits include "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town," "Detroit City," "I Ain't Never," "Burning Memories" and "Honey (Open That Door)."
