Carrie Underwood was inducted as a member of the Grand Ole Opry during the long-running show's Saturday (May 10) broadcast
on WSM-AM/Nashville. Opry member Garth Brooks, a fellow Oklahoman, hosted the induction segment. Noting the Opry's significance
in her career, Brooks told her, "Nothing will last as long or be more important than this award right here tonight." Underwood
made her Grand Ole Opry debut on June 10, 2005, just two weeks after winning the American Idol talent competition.
Underwood is nominated for top female vocalist at the 43rd annual Academy of Country Music Awards taking place Sunday (May
18) in Las Vegas. The ACM Awards will air live on CBS-TV.
