Earl Scruggs' first solo headlining concert at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium has been
released on CD by Rounder Records. The Ultimate Collection/Live at the Ryman was recorded in 2007 and released digitally
in September. Selections include "Ballad of Jed Clampett" and "Foggy Mountain Breakdown," among many other classics from his
catalog. Scruggs' band included his sons, Gary and Randy Scruggs, as well as John Gardner,
Hoot Hester, Rob Ickes, John Jorgenson and Jon Randall. Scruggs' first appearance on the
Ryman stage in 1945, as a member of Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys, is considered
the birth of bluegrass.
