Brandi Carlile Schedules New Album, Give Up the Ghost, on Oct. 6
Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile will release a new album, Give
Up the Ghost, on Oct. 6 on Columbia Records. The album features her longtime band, including twins Tim and Phil Hanseroth
and cellist Josh Neumann. Guests include the Indigo Girls' Amy Ray, drummer Chad Smith (of the Red Hot Chili Peppers) and
multi-instrumentalist Benmont Tench (best known for his work with Tom Petty
& the Heartbreakers). In addition, Elton John sings a duet with Carlile on "Caroline." She said, "I've been listening
to country and western music my whole life and I was totally immersed in Grand Ole Opry culture, wherein the entertainers
are usually not the ones who wrote the music. But when I was 11 and discovered Elton John, I realized that performers do write
and perform their own songs, and I immediately went out and got a keyboard and started writing." Carlile will begin her Give
Up the Ghost tour on Sept. 10 in Salt Lake City.
