Songwriter J.D. Souther will receive the ASCAP Golden Note Award from the performing rights organization on Oct. 19 in Nashville. The ceremony is part of ASCAP's Country Music Awards, which will be held at the Ryman Auditorium. The award honors Souther's extensive success as a songwriter and performer. His writing credits include the Eagles' "Best of My Love," "Heartache Tonight," "New Kid in Town," "Victim of Love" and "How Long." Glen Campbell, the Dixie Chicks, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt and George Strait have also recorded his songs. His hits as a performer include "You're Only Lonely" (1979) and a duet with James Taylor, "Her Town Too" (1981).
