Dave Pahanish and Joe West, co-writers of Toby Keith's "American
Ride," celebrated the song's success during a party Wednesday (Dec. 2) at the Music Row headquarters of BMI, the performance
rights organization. Keith was unable to attend the event. The song was Pahanish and West's second No. 1, their first being
Jimmy Wayne's "Do You
Believe Me Now." BMI's Clay Bradley noted that "American Ride" is Keith's 27th No. 1. He added that Keith "stretches our
format and encourages our writers to step outside and follow their instincts." Keith had the song -- originally titled "This
American Life" -- on hold for a year before recording it.
