Trace Adkins was named the Country Radio Broadcasters' artist humanitarian of the year
during ceremonies Wednesday (Feb. 24) at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville. Adkins, who has performed for U.S. troops
during two USO tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, is an active supporter of several charities, including the Food Allergy &
Anaphylaxis Network and the Wounded Warrior Project. In accepting the humanitarian award from Randy
Owen, last year's recipient, Adkins said, "What an honor. The first concert I ever went to was Whitesnake. The second
was Alabama." He joked to the audience of radio programmers that he's worthy of the humanitarian
award because "I've never killed anybody." He then added, "I've thought about it. Maybe some of you." On a more serious note,
he said, "I do what I can. It's miniscule, it seems. ... We just try to help out when we see needs. I'm not deserving of this."
After being presented the award, Adkins' career accomplishments were recapped during a video presentation. However, a technical
malfunction caused the video to stop playing when it began listing his charitable work. Adkins walked back to the microphone
and said, "That's embarrassing enough. Thank you very much." View
