The late singing star Roy Orbison would have turned 74 on Friday (April
23), and commemorative celebrations are underway to mark the day. Nashville, where he lived much of his life and where he
recorded the big hits such as "Crying" and "In Dreams," is the site of two days of observances. On Thursday (April 22), the
Nashville Sounds baseball team will declare Roy Orbison Night for their game with the Oklahoma RedHawks. Worldwide, the Hard
Rock Cafe chain is featuring Orbison's music, and on Friday, the Nashville venue will host a music night honoring Orbison
with performances from Rodney Crowell, J.D. Souther, Jeffrey
Steele, Sweethearts of the Rodeo and surprise guests. The Nashville event is a fundraiser for Musicians on Call, a nonprofit
organization that brings live and recorded music to healthcare facilities to promote and complement the healing process for
patients, families and caregivers.
