Del McCoury Band Concludes Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman Series
The Del McCoury Band performed at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville
on Thursday night (July 29) to headline the final show of this summer's Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman concert series. In addition
to taking requests and playing crowd favorites like "Nashville Cats" and "1952 Vincent Black Lightning," McCoury joked that
he's been taking it easy on the couch while his band has been touring with Dierks
Bentley, who's promoting a new bluegrass album. McCoury's guests at the show included Ronnie
Bowman, Sam Bush and John
Cowan, as well as Vince Gill, who led the bluegrass series with his
own show on June 24. The Steep Canyon Rangers, a traditional bluegrass
band from Asheville, N.C., opened with an hour-long set and earned a standing ovation. As previously reported, McCoury will
receive the National Endowment of the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship later this year for his contributions to the folk
and traditional arts.
