Singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle is scheduled to appear in an Indianapolis
court on Oct. 19 in connection with last week's arrest on charges of battery, public intoxication and resisting law enforcement
by force. Earle, the 28-year-old son of singer-songwriter Steve Earle,
was arrested Thursday (Sept. 16) following a performance at Radio Radio, a local nightclub. Several unsubstantiated reports
have appeared online regarding his behavior onstage. However, Indianapolis police said club owner David "Tufty" Clough reported
that Earle smashed a table, a lamp and a mirror in the club's dressing room. Clough's daughter claims Earle hit her with his
fist when she attempted to prevent him from assaulting her father. In a statement issued Tuesday to the Indianapolis Star
newspaper, Earle said the online reports about the altercation are inaccurate. "I have been advised by counsel that I should
not comment on a pending criminal matter, but suffice to say that I am looking forward to having my day in court. I would
also like to say that I oppose violence against women in any form." He is free on a $150 bond and continues his tour this
week with stops in Ohio and Virginia.
