The Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville reopened Monday (Nov. 15) after being closed since major flooding
hit Middle Tennessee in May. The owner, Gaylord Entertainment, spent approximately $270 million to repair and upgrade the
2,880-room hotel. Among the additions are several new restaurants and the
Porter
Wagoner Suite, named after the late Grand Ole Opry star. Part of the room decorations is an embroidered wall created by
Manuel Cuevas, the Nashville tailor who made many of Wagoner's rhinestone suits. Later this week, a delegation of corporate
meeting planners and travel writers will be visiting the hotel for a reopening event that will include performances by
Trace Adkins,
Keith Urban,
Sheryl Crow and
Craig Morgan.
The Grand Ole Opry House, also heavily damaged by the flooding from the nearby Cumberland River, reopened in September. The
nearby Opry Mills mall remains closed pending litigation involving insurance on the property.
