Tammy Wynette
Tammy Wynette's 1968 recording of "Stand by Your Man" has been added to the Library
of Congress' National Recording Registry. The country classic is one of 25 recordings this year to join the archive for cultural
preservation. The organization's website calls the song "an ode to the weakness of men, the strength of their women, love,
loyalty and support." Wynette co-wrote the signature song with her producer, Billy Sherrill. Other selections added to the
Registry include the Western classic, "Tumbling Tumbleweeds," recorded by
Sons
of the Pioneers in 1934. Including the new additions, the Registry will now hold 325 preserved recordings.
